Did you know that optimists are 77 percent less likely to die from heart disease than pessimists? Not only will being optimistic improve your outlook, it can also improve your health and longevity. Even if you were born pessimistic, there are things you can do to transform your mindset.

  • Avoid The Three Ps: The next time you hear a comment you do not like, do not associate it with these three Ps: personal, pervasive, and permanent. One statement does not need to be taken personally, does not reflect on the general state of your life, and any beliefs or outcomes expressed in it can be changed.
  • Learn Your ABCs: When you face Adversity, you have a Belief about it, which translates into Consequences. The trick of becoming more optimistic is making sure that the beliefs you hold based on the adversity you face are not negative.
  • Write It Out: You may not realize how much your negative thought processes are affecting your life. Try keeping a journal so you can have a clear understanding of how you think.
