More sunlight shouldn’t impact your rest. Use these tips to get better sleep.
Now that Daylight Savings Time has officially had us all “spring forward,” we’re going to get more sunlight! That’s great news for your plans during the day, but it could make it harder to nod off at night. Fear not! Use these tips to get better sleep.
Optimize your bedroom.
Choose a comfortable mattress and supportive pillow to set the stage for great sleep. Then, lower the temperature of your room to 68 degrees or less. We sleep better in cooler rooms. Finally, block out light and noise. Blackout curtains and earplugs can help.
Get in the habit.
After a day of activity, it makes sense that it’s a challenge to immediately switch to sleep mode. Give your body and mind time to slow down with a bedtime routine, like enjoying a cup of tea or taking a hot bath.
Give up.
It might seem counterintuitive, but getting out of bed when you can’t sleep can actually help you get better rest. Don’t teach yourself to associate your bed with wakefulness. If you can’t sleep for a half hour, get up and try a relaxing activity until you feel tired.
